How Neurofeedback “Brain Training” is Done
Neurofeedback training is a painless, non-invasive learning process.
The client sits in a comfortable chair in front of a computer screen. One or more sensors are placed on the scalp and one on each ear. These sensors are placed at a particular location depending on the area of the brain to be regulated.
The client's brainwaves are recorded, amplified and sent to a computer that processes the signals and provides feedback. This is displayed to the client by means of a video game. The client is simply asked to allow his or her brain to play the video game. No effort is required. The trainer continually adjusts the parameters so that optimal brainwave functioning leads to success in the video game.
Although it’s as easy as playing a game, the purpose of the session is to use the brainwave feedback to achieve a state of balance, regulating brainwaves that were either too highly aroused or under aroused in a particular area of the brain.
After about ten sessions clients report a sense of increased self regulation, such as better ability to focus, greater alertness, more energy or better sleep. Through repetition of the computer game’s effect on the brainwave state, the client gains a sense of internal self control.
